Shaykh Ihsaan Ilaahee Zaheer informed me about our Shaykh, Muhammad al-Gondalwi that he would not read the newspapers or magazines – so as not to [inadvertantly] memorise them! That is because if he were to read anything, he was [instantly] able to memorise it.
He would teach the people and have them read the Qur.aan to him. And when they would finish, he would [turn to] occupy himself in prayer.
Upon completing reading the [entire] Qur.aan, ‘Abdullaah ibn al-Mubaarak would [then] like supplicating whilst in prostration.

Qataadah would complete [reading] the Qur.aan every seven days. And when Ramadhaan arrived, he would complete [reading the Qur.aan] every three days. And when the last ten [days and nights of Ramadhaan] arrived, he would complete [reading the Qur.aan] every night.
