Cutting or filing an extra long tooth

Reference: Silsilah Fataawa Noor ‘alad-Darb – Tape 4

Question: If there was a molar from amongst the molar teeth which was longer than the rest, would it be permissible for me to have it cut or filed [shorter] until it was aligned [in length] with the rest? Please provide us with a fatwa, and may Allaah reward you with good.

Response: If this extra long tooth was hurting him, then there is no harm in having it cut; so [only] the extra [long] bit should be cut in order to remove the harm. And likewise, if it was painful because of its [extra] length, then there is no harm in having the extra [length] cut in order to remove the harm. Other than that [if there is no harm nor pain, then] let him keep it as it is.
