Even if it were once during his lifetime

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen mentioned in his tafseer of Sooraah Aal ‘Imraan:

Allaah Ta’aala said:

{By no means shall you attain al-Birr (piety, righteousness – here it means Allaah’s reward, i.e. Paradise), unless you spend (in Allaah’s Cause) of that which you love}, Soorah Aal ’Imraan, Aayah 92

It is befitting for the person to act upon this aayah, even if it were once [during his lifetime]; [so] if something from his wealth pleases him and causes him to delight, then let him give it in charity, and maybe he will attain this Birr.
