Question: Does the passing of wind (flatulence) from a male and female necessitate washing the affected area with water? And what is required of the woman from whom three drops of blood came out at the expected time of the onset of her menses whilst she is fasting and then stopped? Is she required to break her fast or continue, bearing in mind this occurred just before maghrib (the legislated time for breaking the fast)?

Response: The passing of wind from the anus invalidates the ablution whether that occurred from the man or the woman. You are not required to wash the affected area with water, rather, you are required to make ablution and that is to wash the face, gargle water in the mouth then sniff water up the nose and blow it out, and to wash both arms up to [and including] the elbows, and wipe the head including both ears [with wet hands], and wash both feet up to [and including] the ankles.

And if any blood comes out of the woman at the expected time of the onset of her menses whilst she is fasting, even if it is a little and then stopped, then her fast is broken and she is required to make up [the fast for that day and all the days for the duration of her menses] later on, after she has taken the ritual bath of purification.

And with Allaah lies all the success, and may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his family and his companions.
