Reciting the Qur.aan in the Graveyards
*Please appropriately reference this fatwa to: www.fatwa-online.com, thankyou!*
Question: The ruling regarding reciting the Qur.aan in the graveyards.

Response: The reciting of the Qur.aan in the graveyards is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance!

That which is legislated for whoever visits the graveyards of the Muslims is to extend greetings to [the grave dwellers] and supplicate for them [just] as the Prophet (sal-Allaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) did when he would pass by the graves or visited them, and he [certainly] did not recite the Qur.aan there; He (sal-Allaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said:

«Whoever introduces anything into this matter of ours (i.e. Islaam) that which is not from it, will have it rejected», [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree/2697 and Saheeh Muslim/1718].
