Good treatment of parents

Question: What is the best thing a Muslim can do for his parents during their life?

Response: The best thing a person can do for his parents during their life is to treat them well – as Allaah has commanded; Allaah (Jalla wa ‘Alaa) said:

{And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment}, soorah al-Israa, aayah 23

…[and] this differs from benevolence [towards them]. [Benevolence] can be in speech, and it can be in action, and it can be with wealth. Importantly, you should do everything that amounts to being benevolent to your parents – according to [the best of] your circumstances.
