Listening to audio recordings

Question: We are a group of women who are unable to attend the masaajid to listen to the seminars, and therefore have to [suffice with] buy[ing] the audio cassette recordings to listen to these seminars. [So] my question [is]: Is the reward for listening to these cassette [recordings] the same as the reward for sitting in the masjid itself, and with the descending of the angels around those who have gathered, enclosing them with the Mercy [of Allaah]?

Response: No, the ones who listen to cassette [recordings] are not like those who attend the gatherings of the remembrance [of Allaah]. However, those who listen to these cassette [recordings] are rewarded for the benefit [they attain] and [for] seeking knowledge which they attain from these cassette [recordings]. And as I mentioned a little earlier, how much has been attained in terms of guidance and uprightness by way of these cassette [recordings]! And as we know, the cassette is very light to carry, and easy to benefit from, so one can listen to it whilst he is busy, and [likewise] while he is driving, or while walking along the path. So because of that, these cassettes are a great favour from Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala), and we must thank Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) for this [immense favour] facilitating [much] ease.
