As a father, it is not your job to remove the thorns from the path of your child – out of fear they may scratch.
Some children give their parents gifts, and this is nice, and being good to them, and [a show of] affection [to them] – may Allaah reward them with good.
I have parents who are both of old age; my father is 75 years old, and my mother is 70. If I were to perform ‘umrah [ each on their behalf] and gifted its reward to them – while they are still alive – will they be rewarded for it?
Sometimes I give charity with the intention it is on behalf of my mother, so if I told her about it, would it be considered as showing off?
