Tasbeeh with the fingers

Question: What is the ruling regarding using rosary (prayer) beads for tasbeeh?

Response: That which is best is to do tasbeeh using one’s fingers; this is based on the hadeeth of Yusayrah (radhi-yAllaahu ‘anhaa) that the Prophet ﷺ said:

«Count on your fingers, for they will be asked, and will be made to speak» – transmitted by Abu Daawood and at-Tirmidhee

So [based upon this hadeeth] it is not befitting to do tasbeeh using rosary (prayer) beads – neither for the remembrance after the prayer, and nor when engaging in any other remembrance; rather, the tasbeeh should be done with the fingers.
