The manner of greeting the deceased individual

Question: What is the authentically legislated manner in which the deceased individual is to be greeted; is he to be approached from the direction of his face? And in which direction should he be supplicated for?

Response: [He is to be greeted] just as you greet the living, approaching his face and you extend the greeting to him [by saying]:

السَّلامُ عَلَيْكَ وَ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَ بَرَكَاتُهُ

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَ ارْحَمْهُ وَعَافِهِ وَ اعْفُ عَنْهُ

…and he should supplicate [to Allaah] for him, whilst facing him.
