Question: How can I rid myself of haraam money which is mixed-up with halaal money – which I earnt in accordance with the Islaamic Sharee’ah [guidelines]?

Response: You must estimate the amount of haraam money you have – and be generous in doing so, then donate it to the poor and needy. This is not to be done as an act of charity, rather that you are ridding yourself of haraam money so as to relinquish yourself of this responsibility; and with that, this money is [considered] as that which has no owner – and as such is [to be] donated to the poor and needy.
