What will I say to my Lord?

Sa’d ad-Daawood said:

The Shaykh arrived in Riyadh from Ta’if on Thursday, and we received him at the airport. He then went straight to the masjid to respond to the questions [of those who had arrived] for the seminar.

So when he left the masjid, he took out a piece of paper from his pocket, and I read it [for him]. It was an invitation to a marriage [ceremony] and the [wedding] hall was far. So I said: “O Shaykh, you are tired and need to rest, so [how about] if you cancelled that invitation?”

So the Shaykh asked the soldiers [who were present]: “Do any of you know [where] the [wedding] hall [is]?”

And I was happy the Shaykh had not asked me, because I knew [where] the [wedding] hall [was]. So the soldiers said “we do not know [where the wedding hall is].”

So the Shaykh [turned to me and] said: “O Sa’d, do you know [where] the [wedding] hall [is]?” And I said: “Yes. O Shaykh, [but] you have arrived from your journey, and need to rest.” and the Shaykh said: “What will I say to my Lord, since the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said:

«Whoever is invited to a wedding or the like, then he must go.»

[So prepare yourself by] seek[ing] aid in Allaah, [and let’s go].”

So [I took] the Shaykh [and we] went [to the wedding], in response to the invitation.”
