More commonly known as the Shee‘ah, a sect that exceeded in love and honour for the Aal al-Bayt, and were named Raafidhah after rejecting the leadership of Zayd ibn ‘Ali.

al-Baaqiriyyah
A branch of the Shee‘ah (Raafidhah) who follow Muhammad al-Baaqir and his son Ja‘far as-Saadiq, with differing views on how the imaamah passed between them.
al-Baabiyyah
A misguided offshoot of al-Ithnaa ‘Ashariyyah that began in Iran, named after its founder ‘Ali Muhammad ash-Sheeraazee, who called himself “al-Baab” and claimed prophethood.
al-Aftahiyyah
A branch of the Raafidhah who claim the imaamah passed from Ja‘far as-Saadiq to his son ‘Abdullaah al-Aftah, the brother of Ismaa‘eel.
Aaghaakhaaniyyah
An offshoot of the Ismaa‘eeliyyah founded by Hasan ‘Ali Shaah (“Aaghaa Khaan”) in 19th-century Iran, whose followers are said to worship their leader and pay him a fifth of their earnings.
al-Ismaa’eeliyyah
A branch of the Raafidhah who affirmed the leadership (imaamah) of Ismaa‘eel ibn Ja‘far as-Saadiq, the eldest son of Ja‘far as-Saadiq.
al-Ithnaa ‘Ashariyyah
The largest branch of the Raafidhah, who claim infallibility for their twelve imaams beginning with ‘Ali ibn Abi Taalib and ending with al-Mahdi.
