My Most Prominent Shaykhs and Teachers
I have benefited greatly from a number of eminent scholars, the most prominent of them being:
- The shaykh of the reciters, the ‘allaamah and precise verifier ‘Abdul-Fattaah al-Qaadhee – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1403AH). I recited aayaat from the Book of Allaah to him over several sittings at his home in al-Madeenah an-Nabawiyyah in 1397AH, during his teaching at the Islaamic University at that time.
- Our shaykh, the ‘allaamah, the jurist, the reviver, the muhaddith of the age, Abu ‘Abdir-Rahmaan Muhammad Naasiruddeen al-Albaanee – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1420AH). I was honoured to come to know him, to sit with him, to accompany him and to travel with him on some of his journeys and stays from the year 1392AH onwards. May Allaah reward him well, raise his rank, and let the Muslims benefit from his knowledge and his da’wah.
- Our shaykh, the ‘allaamah, the reviver, the imaam ‘Abdul-‘Azeez ibn ‘Abdullaah ibn Baaz – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1420AH). I enrolled to study at the Islaamic University in 1392AH, during the period of his administration of it.
- Our shaykh, the ‘allaamah Dr. Muhammad Ameen al-Misree – may Allaah have mercy upon him – head of the Department of Islaamic Studies at the Islaamic University in al-Madeenah. I kept his company in a particular way that was mine alone, serving him in the year 1396AH during his residence at the University.
- Our shaykh, the ‘allaamah, the muhaddith, the jurist ‘Abdul-Muhsin ibn Hamad al-‘Abbaad al-Badr, formerly deputy president of the Islaamic University and a teacher in the Noble Prophetic Masjid – my study under him being at the Faculty of Sharee’ah of the aforementioned University and elsewhere.
Those From Whom I Received an Ijaazah
By the favour and generosity of Allaah, I have been granted ijaazahs by senior shuyookh through whom Allaah has benefited the Muslims, the most prominent of them being:
- Our shaykh, the haafidth of elevated chains of narration, Muhammad A’dham ibn Fadhl ad-Deen al-Joondalwee – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1405AH) – shaykh of hadeeth at al-Jaami’ah al-Muhammadiyyah in Gujranwala, Pakistan. Between him and Imaam ash-Showkaanee there are but two intermediaries.
- Our shaykh, the haafidth, the ascetic, Muhammad ‘Ataa.ullaah Haneef – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1408AH) – from the major scholars of Pakistan and author of at-Ta’leeqaat as-Salafiyyah upon Sunan an-Nasaa.ee and other works.
- Our shaykh, the haafidth ‘Ubaydullaah ar-Rahmaanee al-Mubaarakfooree – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1414AH) – from the major scholars of India and author of Mir’aat al-Mafaateeh Sharh Mishkaat al-Masaabeeh.
- Our shaykh, the muhaddith, the mufassir, the verifier Shaah Badee’uddeen ar-Raashidee as-Sindee – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1416AH) – from the major scholars of Pakistan.
- Our shaykh, the muhaddith Hammaad ibn Muhammad al-Ansaaree – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1418AH) – formerly professor of hadeeth at the Islaamic University in al-Madeenah an-Nabawiyyah.
- Our shaykh, the muhaddith, the jurist, the educator ‘Umar ibn Muhammad al-Fallaanee, known as Fallaatah – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1419AH) – formerly general secretary of the Islaamic University in al-Madeenah, director of the Centre for the Service of the Sunnah and the Prophetic Seerah, and a teacher in the Noble Prophetic Masjid.
- Our shaykh, the ‘allaamah ‘Abdul-Ghaffaar Hasan ar-Rahmaanee, formerly a teacher at the Islaamic University in al-Madeenah al-Munawwarah and from the major scholars of Pakistan. He taught me at the University.
- Our shaykh, the ‘allaamah Muhammad ash-Shaadhilee ibn Muhammad as-Saadiq an-Nayfar – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1418AH) – formerly dean of the Zaytoonah Faculty of Sharee’ah and Usool ad-Deen in Tunisia.
- Our shaykh, the ‘allaamah Muhammad ibn ‘Abdil-Haadee al-Manoonee al-Miknaasee – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1420AH) – from the scholars of Morocco.
- Our shaykh, the ‘allaamah, the judge and historian Muhammad al-Haafidth ibn Moosaa Humayd – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1418AH) – from the scholars and judges of al-Madeenah.
- Our shaykh, the muhaddith titled “the khateeb of India”, ‘Abdur-Ra.oof ar-Rahmaanee an-Naybaalee – may Allaah have mercy upon him (d. 1420AH). I read to him the thulaathiyyaat of Imaam al-Bukhaaree in his Saheeh.

My Counsel and Advice
I counsel myself and my Muslim brothers with the fear of Allaah in private and in public;
and to proceed upon the way of the pious predecessors in matters of creed;
and to follow the evidence wherever it leads;
and to hold fast to the Book and the Sunnah, for in them lies salvation. How beautiful is the saying of Imaam Ibn Hibbaan – may Allaah have mercy upon him: “Indeed, in adhering to his Sunnah lies complete safety and the sum of all honour. Its lamps are not extinguished and its proofs are not overthrown. Whoever adheres to it is protected, and whoever opposes it regrets it, for it is the impregnable fortress and the firm pillar whose merit is manifest and whose rope is strong. Whoever holds fast to it becomes a master, and whoever seeks to oppose it perishes. Those who cling to it are the people of happiness in the Hereafter.”
And to shun innovations and to warn against them – for knowledge is not by the abundance of narration, but rather it is a light which Allaah casts into the heart, whose condition is following (the Sunnah) and fleeing from desire, as Imaam adh-Dhahabee – may Allaah have mercy upon him – said;
and to call to Allaah upon clear insight;
and to invoke Allaah’s pleasure upon our eminent imaams, without partisanship to any madhhab in research and verification;
and to refer back to the people of knowledge and to the scrutiny of those qualified in the matter, and to give due care to precision, understanding and vigilance;
and that one should not state an opinion on an issue for which he has no imaam to have preceded him in it;
and to be eager in seeking knowledge with a sincere intention, together with good manners – for whoever seeks hadeeth has sought the highest of affairs, so he must be the best of people, as Imaam Abu ‘Aasim an-Nabeel – may Allaah have mercy upon him – said;
and to guard against self-admiration and conceit, for it is a means of destruction. We ask Allaah for safety.
I ask Allaah to make us all from those by whom the Sunnah is given life and innovations are put to death, by whom the hearts of the people of truth are strengthened and the souls of the people of desires are subdued, by His favour and generosity;
and that He gather us all beneath the banner of our imaam and our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
“Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith, and put not in our hearts any rancour towards those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful.”
And all praise belongs to Allaah, Lord of the Worlds.
