Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan said:
«…and whoever says about a believer something that is not true, he will be made by Allaah to dwell in the putrid fluid flowing from the inhabitants of Hell until he retracts what he said.» Abu Daawood, no.3597. Classified by al-Albaanee as Saheeh«…and whoever says about a believer something that is not true…»[Know that] the Muslim has sanctity (honour and dignity).
And the Prophet ﷺ said:
«Indeed your blood, your wealth, and your honour are sacred to one another like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, [and] in this land of yours.» al-Bukhaaree, no.67So, whoever speaks about his brother’s honour, and insults him, and curses him, or backbites him, or betrays him, or says to him ‘O transgressor’, ‘O disbeliever’, or ‘O enemy of Allaah’ – or that which is similar or accuses him of indecency and immorality – then Allaah ﷻ will make [the accuser] dwell in the putrid fluid flowing from the inhabitants of Hell as a punishment – meaning imprisonment in the fire [of Hell] – and refuge is sought in Allaah [from that].
This is a severe punishment – until [the accuser] desists from that, meaning that he must seek forgiveness from the oppressed person he spoke ill of, or if he spread slander about someone to the judges, the officials, or the people of authority – slandering believers without right – then this severe warning applies to [the accuser].
