O son of Aadam, by Allaah, if you were to read the Qur.aan [with understanding] and then believed in [what] it [contains], your sadness [at what comes to pass] in this world will be lengthened, and your fear [of Allaah] in this world will intensify, and your weeping in this world will increase.

Control over his tongue
[From] amongst them, [‘Abdullaah] Ibn ‘Own was the one who had the most control over his tongue.
How sad is the state of the son of Aadam
[How] sad is [the state of] the son of Aadam; lifting rocks is easier for him than to abandon sins.
To talk about the people is an illness
To talk about the people is an illness, and to remember Allaah is the cure.
Then he is not one who remembers Allaah
Indeed [true] fear is to fear Allaah until your fear [of Him] lies between you and your sins; that [there] is what fear is.
Falling short
Indeed it is my falling short [of sufficient good deeds] that I weep over.
How are you this morning?
[With] death approaching me, [I am] far from [what] I [had] hoped [for myself], [and] my [good] deeds are insufficient.
in shaa.-Allaah they have been forgiven by Allaah
If it were not that I was amongst them (this group of righteous men), I would have said [in shaa.-Allaah] they have been forgiven [by Allaah].
O Allaah, if you forgive me
O Allaah, if you forgive me, then you are qualified to do so, and if you punish me, then I am qualified to be so.
Dirty clothing is more in need of soap than it is of a pleasant scent
Which of the two is best: [that] I glorify Allaah ( سبحان الله ), or [that] I seek forgiveness from Allaah ( أستغفر الله )?
