Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan said:

In the name of Allaah, All Gracious, All Merciful.

All Praise is due to Allaah [alone], Lord of the worlds. And may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family, and all of his companions.

On the occasion of the end of the Hijree year, and the beginning of the [new] Hijree year, then we praise and thank Allaah for allowing us to reach this [new] year.

And we ask Him to enable us to use this [year] in obedience to Him, and in seeking His pleasure.

And the passing of years is a lesson for those who reflect, and it is part of our appointed time and our lifespan.

We must remember this and hasten to perform righteous deeds before our time [in this world] runs out.

[As] the poet said:

“Serve yourself before your death reminds you – for [this] reminder is [like] a second life for a person.”

So the Muslim should take advantage of these days and nights, and these years – with what he will find stored for him with Allaah عز و جل.

So they are his provision with Allaah تعالى. This was the way of the righteous predecessors, and of those whom Allaah granted success among the later generations – to ponder and reflect over this world[ly life], its swift passage, and the fact that it counts against one’s lifetime.

And that he will not be returned to this world to do good deeds for what has passed [of his time here].

Therefore, the Muslim must ponder and reflect, and seize the opportunity to do righteous deeds in the time Allaah has granted him.

Allaah جل و علا says:

{And say, “Do [as you will], for Allaah will see your deeds, and [so will] His Messenger and the believers. And you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you of what you used to do.”} – at-Towbah 009:105

And may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family, and all of his companions.
