Question: May Allaah grant you good O Shaykh. He is asking what is the meaning of love for the Sake of Allaah, and hate for the Sake of Allaah?
Response: It means that you love a person, and you don’t love that person other than for the Sake of Allaah; [so] you don’t love him because he gives you [some] money, or because he is of some worldly benefit, rather, you love him because he is a righteous man.
And hate for the Sake of Allaah [is that] you don’t hate him because he didn’t give you anything, but you hate him because he is an enemy of Allaah, and that he opposes obedience to Allaah سبحانه و تعالىa – you should hate him because of that. Don’t hate him because he didn’t give you anything, or because there is animosity – or something similar – between the two of you.
