We [sincerely] advise ourselves and the Muslims by taking advantage of these remaining days of this noble month with worship and an increase in worship and seeking forgiveness, and an increase in supplication and an increase in charitable deeds, because it is [approaching] the end of the month.
We are [shortly due] to welcome a noble and blessed month, a month of fasting and praying, a month of reciting the Qur.aan…
Then, on this occasion (the eve of Muharram) I say, perhaps it is most appropriate for a person to conclude [the passing of] his year with contemplation, and reflection on what he has done and what he is doing.

Whoever busies himself with [helping fulfil] the needs of the people, Allaah will aid him in [fulfilling] his personal needs.
However, beneficial knowledge continues and does not cease; its benefit continues, and [likewise] the reward for the one who conveyed it…
So if he did not ‘sow’ anything in there for his Hereafter, then he has lost it, and [as a result] he has lost his Hereafter.
Shu’bah was the most tender [hearted] of people; he would give the seeker [of aid] whatever was possible for him [to give].
