Advice regarding Ramadhaan

Shaykh Rabee’ al-Madkhalee said:

I urge you, O brothers, to give great importance during Ramadhaan to the night prayer – may Allaah bless you – [both] in congregation and individually.

I advise you to turn wholeheartedly to the Qur.aan, to recite it night and day, and to reflect deeply upon it.

Indeed, when Ramadhaan came, the early generations (Salaf) would leave off teaching hadeeth and other pursuits – and devote themselves entirely to worship in this month, and they would devote themselves to the recitation of the Qur.aan – may Allaah bless you – for prioritising it is a tremendous matter.

Rather, the Messenger ﷺ established this practice, for he would review the Qur.aan with Jibreel every year in Ramadhaan, and in the year in which he passed away, he reviewed the Qur.aan with Jibreel twice.

The early generations understood from this the prescribed nature of giving special attention to reciting the Qur.aan – but with reflection.

[Let us] recite with contemplation and understanding. Derive from it [our] ‘aqeedah, [our] manners, and [our] guidance. [Let us] truly believe in its promises and its warnings, so that its recitation may have a profound impact on our souls and our lives. We ask Allaah to benefit us and you through this Book and through the Prophetic Sunnah.
