Shaykh Khaalid Ismaa’eel said:
And I say to the brothers, there are thieves in the month of Ramadhaan – thieves who steal your fasting, who steal your rewards and good deeds.
This [TV] screen – unless it has beneficial religious programmes, yes, then you may watch them, that is good – or Qur.aan, or prayer.
And this mobile phone…I mean what would harm you if you turned off the internet during the month of Ramadhaan – and said, “That’s it, I don’t want WhatsApp, nor Twitter, nor internet, nor anything,” except if it is something beneficial – yes, beneficial lessons that you listen to – yes. And try it.
And don’t open your phone except for the Qur.aan, and that’s it.
Instead of scrolling through news and gossip – “this was said” and “that was said” – and someone sends you this clip and that clip.
You’ll find that hours have passed from you and you have done nothing.
If you took the iPhone and put the Qur.aan on it, and instead of scrolling and scrolling you read the Qur.aan – turning the pages of the Qur.aan – you could complete many readings [ ختمات ] because of the time that you would otherwise be wasting.
