Daawood ibn Abee Hind fasted for forty years, and his family were not aware of it. He was very discrete, and would take his [packed] lunch with him, and then give it away [to someone needy] along the way.

My father
If you were not from my family I would not have told you this about my father; he was steadfast in fasting every other day for forty years, and he would [also] pray the fajr prayer with the ‘ishaa prayer.

Fasting every other day for the last sixty years
Regarding ‘Alee ibn al-Ja’d [it was said that] for the last sixty years, he has been fasting every other day.
Feed 500 people during Ramadhaan
Hammaad ibn Abee Sulaymaan would feed five hundred people during Ramadhaan, and after ‘Eed [al-Fitr] he would give 100 dirhams to each one.
Feeding the fasting
Hammaad ibn Abee Sulaymaan would feed fifty of the fasting everyday throughout Ramadhaan, and on the night before ‘Eed [al-Fitr] he would clothe them with a garment each.
My father would never miss fasting
My father would never miss fasting [every] Monday and Thursday, and the three full moon days.
So that you may attain a reward similar to that of mine
Go and get me [some] water or dried dates to break my fast with, so that you may attain a reward similar to that of mine.
