al-Marwathee said, I said to Ahmad ibn Hanbal رحمه الله:

Doing more good than harm
We pursued this affair [of seeking knowledge] and [when] we looked [around us], we did not find anyone doing an action without knowledge, except that [as a result] he would do more good than harm.
‘The walls have ears’
If we changed the [famous] saying ‘the walls have ears’ to ‘the angels write [everything]’, we would certainly produce a generation which only fears Allaah, and is conscious of Allaah in their speech…
Total control over hunger
He who has total control over his stomach (hunger), attains total control over [the ability to perform] all righteous actions.
This is the abode of actions
This is the abode of actions and the abode of remembrance and the abode of being held accountable [for one’s deeds] – the abode of this dunyaa.
The result of the sins he used to do
Certainly, I consider a man who has forgotten knowledge which he used to possess to be the result of the sins he used to do.
