Question: May Allaah reward you with goodness. He says: Noble Shaykh, some people of doubt raise an objection regarding the hadeeth of al-Israa (the night journey). They ask:

How could the Prophet ﷺ lead the Prophets in prayer when they are in their graves?
And how could he greet them in the heavens when their bodies are in their graves?

So what is the answer, and what is the [correct] methodology for receiving [such a] doubt and responding to it? May Allaah reward you with goodness.

Response: I advise you to put your mind at ease from [any thought of] refuting this doubt until you read what the scholars have written on this subject.

The Prophet ﷺ informed us that he prayed with the Prophets; [and] we know they are deceased.

Is Allaah not capable of bringing their souls [so they could pray together]?

Each person should consider the possible explanations. Is it better for them to say, ‘This is a lie’?

Do they accuse of lying the one who said this, or those Sahaabah who narrated the hadeeth, and the Taabi’oon and those who came after them – generation after generation – were they all mistaken, and then Allaah brought someone in this age to realise what they did not notice?

A student of knowledge should not be overly impressed with his own opinion; rather, he should present his views to the people of knowledge, refer to the words of the scholars, and examine what they say.
