Questioner: There are some people who say that the Messenger ﷺ was taken on the Night Journey (al-Israa) but was not taken on the Ascension (al-Mi’raaj) to the heavens.
And that is because al-Israa is mentioned in the Noble Qur.aan, while al-Mi’raaj is not mentioned.
[So] what is your eminence’s guidance on this, and may Allaah reward you with goodness.
Response: al-Israa is established by the Qur.aan and the [authentic] Sunnah, and al-Mi’raaj is established by the mutawaatir[1] Sunnah from the Prophet ﷺ.
He was taken up to the heavens and passed through the seven heavens, reaching the seventh heaven, until he arrived at a place where he heard the scratching of the pens.
And [there] he heard [directly] from his Lord ﷻ the obligation of the five [daily] prayers.
So whoever denies this should be made aware, and the Sharee’ah-based evidences clarified to him.
Should he persist and continue to deny it [after that, then] he has committed [an act of] disbelief, and we ask Allaah for safety and protection [from that]. Yes.
Questioner: May Allaah reward you with goodness and be generous to you.
[1] A hadeeth that is narrated by such a large number of people that it is impossible that they have invented a lie.
