His desires get the better of him
It is not befitting of the believer, that [thought of] his stomach (food) commands his attention the most, and that his desires get the better of him.
Speaking too much and eating too much
[There are] two things that harden the heart: speaking too much and eating too much.
Total control over hunger
He who has total control over his stomach (hunger), attains total control over [the ability to perform] all righteous actions.
Eating too much
It used to be said that eating too much diminishes [the ability] to express [one’s] understanding, and leads to hardness [of the heart] and [too much] sleep.
Close your eyes
If a woman passes [before] you, then close your eyes until she has passed by.
Such a look will cause desire in the heart
Do not allow your eyes to look at a woman’s garment, for indeed such a look will cause desire in the heart.
Lower our gazes
It was reported on the authority of Wakee’ رحمه الله who said: We went out with Sufyaan ath-Thowree رحمه الله on the day of ‘Eed, and he said [to us]
How many beautiful women did you look at today?
It was reported on the authority of Abu Hakeem رحمه الله who said: Hassaan ibn Abi Sinaan رحمه الله went out on the day of ‘Eed, and when he returned, his wife said to him
Men are of three types
Men are [of] three [types]: A man who does a good deed, and then hopes for, and anticipates its reward. And a man who does an evil deed, then repents and hopes for, and anticipates forgiveness.
