in shaa.-Allaah they have been forgiven by Allaah
‘Abdullaah ibn Bakr ibn ‘Abdillaah رحمه الله said, I heard a person speaking about my father, [saying that] when he (my father) was standing in ‘Arafah, he said
O Allaah, if you forgive me
O Allaah, if you forgive me, then you are worthy of that, and if you punish me, then I am worthy of that.
Dirty clothing is more in need of soap than it is of a pleasant scent
Which of the two is best: [that] I glorify Allaah ( سبحان الله ), or [that] I seek forgiveness from Allaah ( أستغفر الله )?
The mere sight of him would awaken sadness in my heart
Whenever I looked at al-Fudhayl [ibn ’Iyaadh], [the mere sight of him] would awaken sadness [in my heart], [causing me to] despise myself, and then weep.
How are you this morning?
al-Marwathee said, I said to Ahmad ibn Hanbal رحمه الله:
‘How are you this morning?’ He [Ahmad ibn Hanbal رحمه الله] replied
The most dishonest of the people
The most dishonest of the people is the one who returns to his sins [after repenting for them]. And the most ignorant of the people is the one who is arrogant about his good deeds.
How many times have you lied?
I only [ever] lied once. ‘Umar asked me about a garment, [and] how much I paid for it. So I [lied, and] dropped its price by two thirds.
Don’t curse him
az-Zibruqaani رحمه الله said: I was with Abu Waa.il Shaqeeq ibn Salamah رحمه الله, and I began cursing al-Hajjaaj and mentioning his misdeeds. He (Abu Waa.il) then said [to me]: ‘Don’t curse him.
You are unable to please all of the people
Indeed, you are unable to please all of the people, so rectify that which is between you and Allaah, and do not concern yourself with [what] the people [may think or say].
