Question: May Allaah be good to you. Tonight is the 27th night [of Rajab], and there are those who believe this night is the night of al-Israa wal-Mi’raaj (the night journey and ascension). [So] is there any guidance regarding this, may Allaah protect and preserve you?
Response: al-Israa wal-Mi’raaj are true, and [they] are among the miracles of the Messenger ﷺ.
However, Allaah has not legislated for us to celebrate al-Israa wal-Mi’raaj.
[It is] something the Messenger ﷺ did not do, [and] nor did his companions, [and] nor did the Pious Predecessors (as-Salaf as-Saalih).
Therefore, it is not permissible for us to introduce something [into this religion] after them; this is misguidance.
[The Prophet ﷺ said:]
– and we seek refuge in Allaah – [it is] rejected from him.
Furthermore, the specific night on which al-Israa wal-Mi’raaj occurred has not been established. It has not been proven that it was the 27th night, nor any other [specific night].
If there had been any benefit for us in determining the exact night on which it occurred, Allaah and His Messenger would have clarified it [for us].
Since no clarification came in the Book or the Sunnah, this indicates that we are not required to seek it out or celebrate it.
This has nothing at all to do with the religion; rather, it is among the [newly] introduced innovations [bid’ah].
Firstly, specifying the night [of 27th Rajab] without evidence, and secondly, even if it were proven that it was the night of al-Israa wal-Mi‘raaj, Allaah has not legislated for us to celebrate it. Yes.
