I am of the opinion that from the completeness of good manners with parents is not to respond to any call whilst in their presence.

[Regarding how to please parents] – you please them with three things; that the child
Good manners
Good manners are better for the children [both] in terms of their character and wealth, than to give them gold and silver.
As a father, it is not your job
As a father, it is not your job to remove the thorns from the path of your child – out of fear they may scratch. Indeed the thorns will never cease, and you will not live forever!!
The greatest gift for the parents
Some children give their parents gifts, and this is nice, and being good to them, and [a show of] affection [to them] – may Allaah reward them with good.
