Spreading marital secrets
[What is] the ruling regarding spreading marital secrets, and talking to his friends about that which occurs between the husband and wife; very often he talks about things which a person would be shy to mention?
Concealing the identity of the one giving charity
Is it permissible for me to lie to the one I give charity to, by saying this charity is not from me, but from someone else?
Deeds done in secret
If [one’s] deeds done in secret are equal to [one’s] deeds done in public, then that is fair.
Not be seen to be praying voluntary prayers
I have not seen a man [whom Allaah has] raised [in rank] like Maalik ibn Anas; he would not be seen to be praying voluntary prayers, nor voluntary fasting – yet he must have had a secret [hoard of righteous deeds].
Therein is iniquity
It used to be said: ‘For him whose secret hoard [of deeds] is superior to his open hoard [of deeds] – therein is much excellence; and for him whose secret hoard [of deeds] are worse than his open hoard [of deeds] – therein is iniquity.
Secretly standing the night in prayer
Ayyoob as-Sikhtiyaanee would secretly stand the night in prayer, and when dawn came he would raise his voice as if [to suggest to his family] he had just awoken.
A secretive man
And I never saw him openly glorifying Allaah, nor [openly doing] any acts of charity.
Humility even in front of his family
It was reported regarding ar-Rabee’ ib Kuthaym that when a family member would enter his room, he would [hasten to] cover his Qur.aan.
