And amongst them was ‘Umar ibn Abi Salamah رضي الله عنه, and he was small, a young boy. He sat with the Messenger ﷺ to eat, and his hand started to wander around the plate.
If a Prophet comes to you…
Our Shaykh – ‘Abdullaah al-Khulayfee – was not of the opinion that the young girl can be married off, and when it was said to him about ‘Aa.ishah being married off, he said
ath-Thowree has arrived
I heard them [speaking] at Marwu saying: ‘ath-Thowree has arrived.’ So I went out to see him, and was beholden [to find] he was [just] a youth, [whose] beard had just started to grow.
Memorising when young
I heard (sought knowledge) from Qataadah when I was 14 years old, and there is nothing which I heard during those years except that it [remains with me] as if written in my heart.
Love him, for indeed I love him
The Prophet ﷺ wanted to wipe the nasal mucus from [the young] Usaamah ibn Zayd*, so I said to him: ‘Leave me to do it.’ And he ﷺ said: O ‘Aa.ishah, love him, for indeed I love him.

Regarding Abul-Ma’aadee Muhammad ibn ‘Ali ibn Abil-‘Ashaa.ir al-Halabee (died 789A.H.), it has been narrated that he memorised Soorah al-An’aam in his youth, after he had read it only once.
A loaf of bread with pickles
We used to pass by [Imaam] al-Baghawee, and ad-Daaraqutnee [who at the time was only] a small boy, would walk behind us – in his hand was a loaf of bread with pickles on it.
Awake in prayer at night
I used to know Ahmad ibn Hanbal when he was [just] a little boy, and he would remain awake at night standing in prayer.
