Yes, this is something people are lenient about: lying to children. Lying to children is not permissible; neither to adults nor to children.
From the mistakes which parents fall into
From the mistakes which parents fall into when uttering wrong words in front of their children, is that they censure the children when they utter them [too]!
Keep a watchful eye on your children
Watch over your children, [and] follow up on them. Take them to the masjid, [and] take them to beneficial lessons and lectures.
Importance of righteous parenting
And indeed, from the greatest reasons for helping to improve the Hereafter of the offspring is the righteousness of the parents; and in other words, [their setting] a good example.
Then he is lying in his love for the Messenger ﷺ
As for the one who claims that he loves the Messenger ﷺ, and then he does not follow him, or that he introduces an innovation and thinks that he loves the Messenger while he introduces an innovation...

Words are of three [types]: • a beautiful word; • a foolish word, and • a hollow word. As for the beautiful word, it is adorned by truth.
True essence of honesty
The true essence of honesty is that you remain truthful in a situation where nothing would save you except lying.

And among the beneficial matters is to know that people's harm to you, especially through bad words, does not harm you, but rather harms them.
