By Allaah, we would never lie, and nor did we know what lying was.

Indeed, you are not able to please all of the people, so rectify that which is between you and Allaah, and thereafter do not be concerned about [pleasing] the people.
The one who safeguards himself the most
The one who safeguards himself the most, is the one who protects his tongue the most [from false and idle speech]…
Kissing the elderly on the forehead
Kissing the forehead of the elderly is [an act of] reverence and honour [towards them]. It is [merely] a practice and not an act of worship; as [can be] seen from this [narration]…
A sound heart
…and the shortest of paths to paradise is soundness[1]of the heart.
The example of the believer is like the pearl
The example of the believer is like the pearl; wherever it is [found], its beauty is with it (i.e. wherever he may be, his beautiful characteristics accompany him).
Spreading the faults and shortcomings of the leaders
It is not from [the etiquettes of] giving advice to spread the faults and shortcomings of the leaders, since that fills the hearts with anger and hate towards the [established and recognised] leaders.
Harsh in character with his family
Why do many people have an element of severity [in their character] towards their wife and their children…
The most tender hearted of people
Shu’bah was the most tender [hearted] of people; he would give the seeker [of aid] whatever was possible for him [to give].
Lazy people
The lazy ones are the most distressed, depressed and saddest of the people…
