Question: Your Excellency, thank you for this clarification. I have a question. When someone asks me and says:

“You are Salafi”

– how should I respond to him?

Response: It’s an honour. Say [to him]:

“I am Salafi, and I am proud [to be].”

Yes, the answer is [that] simple.

What does ‘Salafi’ mean?

[Being] ‘Salafi’ means: I am with those who preceded me (Salaf) – namely the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ, his noble companions, and the Rightly Guided Caliphs, those whom Allaah ﷻ said about them:

{Allaah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him.} – at-Towbah 9:100

But should we [Salafis] think that everyone will be pleased with us? No!

Hold your head high and say:

“I am Salafi.”

There is no harm [in that].
