Hunger cleanses the mind and kills the desires, and it is a cause for attaining deeper knowledge.

He was the most humblest of all the people
He would remain in the main masjid of the city from [the time of] Fajr until [the time of] ‘Ishaa, not leaving other than for a need. He would teach the people and have them read the Qur.aan to him.
If knowledge does not benefit you
[Regarding] knowledge, if it does not benefit you, it will harm you.
Knowledge is that which benefits
Knowledge is that which benefits. Knowledge is not that which is [only] memorised.
O Allaah protect me from knowledge which does not benefit
How many things are there – if they do not benefit, they will not harm. However, [with regard to] knowledge – if it does not benefit, it will harm.
Should you remember me, then supplicate for me
O my brother, the benefit of getting together is [that it reminds us] to supplicate [for one another].
Would not allow time to pass without benefit
About him (Sulaym ibn Ayyoob رحمه الله), I was told he would take account of himself [to the level of every] breath; he would not let time pass without [utilising it for] benefit.
Fear Allaah!

Indicative of its importance
By the Dawn. And by the ten nights al-Fajr 89:1-2 …whenever Allaah swears by something, it is indicative of its importance and great benefit.
