I would sit there weeping at what I saw
[My husband], Masrooq رحمه الله would pray [so long] until his feet swelled, and sometimes I would sit there weeping at what I saw him doing [in prolonging his prayer – causing his feet to swell].
So as not to fall asleep
In the Summer, Safwaan ibn Saleem would pray [the night prayer] inside his home, and during the Winter he would pray on the roof so as [to remain alert and] not to fall asleep [whilst praying].
Verily these hearts are but utensils
Verily these hearts are but utensils, so busy them with the Qur.aan, and do not busy them with anything else.
I have not seen any better prayer
I have not seen any better prayer than that of Muhammad ibn Nasr. A house fly settled upon his ear, and he did not [even] try to brush it away.
What bit me?
al-Imaam al-Bukhaaree رحمه الله was praying one night and a wasp bit him seventeen times. So when he finished praying, he said: ‘Have a look and see what hurt (bit) me.’
Resemble the prayer of the Messenger of Allaah
‘Amr ibn al-Aswad performed hajj, and on his way back he passed by Madeenah.
