If the remembrance of death departed my heart, I would certainly fear my heart['s pursuit of desires] will corrupt me.
How are you this morning?
al-Marwathee said, I said to Ahmad ibn Hanbal رحمه الله:
'How are you this morning?' He [Ahmad ibn Hanbal رحمه الله] replied
The love of this world
There is none who loves [the pursuit of] this world, except that he has not loved death; [yet] whoever exerts himself [in righteousness] towards it (death), [will find that he] loves to meet his Lord.
Remembering death and the Hereafter
[About as-Saffaar رحمه الله it was said]: '...and he was seldom seen to be smiling.'
He bequeathed his library
Abu Qilaabah رحمه الله died in ash-Shaam, and he had bequeathed [all] his books to Ayyoob as-Sikhtiyaanee, so they were taken to him.
Regularly visiting the graveyard
Abu 'Abdir-Rahmaan 'Abdullaah al-'Umaree رحمه الله would visit the graveyard a lot, and with him he would have a book to read. [About this], he would say
Father died leaving behind debts
Our father died leaving behind many debts. He had a number of children - some of whom are poor, and others who are wealthy; so should the wealthy of his children pay off their father's debts?
Be careful from whom you take your religion
Indeed, this knowledge is the religion, so look (be careful) from whom you take your religion.
You shall die tomorrow
If it was said to Hammaad ibn Salamah 'Indeed, you shall die tomorrow', he would not be able to do any more [righteous] deeds [than he already fills each day with].
