And here, I recall something novel which occurred…and that was about twenty years ago; [I held lessons where] I explained the Forty [Hadeeth of al-Imaam an-Nawawee] in one of the masaajid.

al-Jaami’ as-Saheeh of al-Bukhaaree
I was asleep [by the Ka’bah] between the [al-Hajr al-Aswad] corner and the Maqaam [Ibraaheem], and I saw the Prophet ﷺ, and he said to me
Alone, and in the study of hadeeth
‘Abdullaah ibn al-Mubaarak used to stay in his house a lot, and so it was said to him ‘Are you isolating yourself?’ He said: ‘How can I isolate myself when I am with the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions?!
Not to accept gifts from the students
If I accepted it from you, then I will not relate any [more] hadeeth to you; and if I do not accept it from you, then I will [continue to] relate hadeeth to you.
In the footsteps of the Prophet ﷺ
[In a dream] I saw the Prophet ﷺ [and it was] as if he was walking, and Muhammad ibn Ismaa’eel [al-Bukhaaree] رحمه الله was walking behind him.
Encouraging others
When a man narrates to me a hadeeth, I remain silent [to encourage] him – [giving the impression] as if I haven’t heard it [before], even though I [first] heard it before he was even born!
Did not make a single mistake
Ishaaq ibn Raahawayh dictated 11,000 hadeeth to us from memory. He then read them (what he had dictated) to us and [found he] had not made a single mistake [in what he had dictated to us].
A strong memory
I have never memorised anything and thereafter forgotten it.
