My brother died at the age of 35, and he had not performed hajj. Should I perform ‘umrah or hajj on his behalf – even though he had not done so?
It has been authentically reported from ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar رضي الله عنهما – while he was upon as-Safaa, supplicating…
[So] this is not permissible. And this is from the problems [which occur] now[adays]…
Some of the scholars say that the Prophet ﷺ granted permission for the hajj to be performed on behalf of the deceased – without [specifically mentioning] the ‘umrah.
