It is recommended for a person during the [first] ten days of Dhul-Hijjah to increase in [uttering] the takbeer, so he utters:
اللّهُ أَكْبَر اللّهُ أَكْبَر
لَا إِلَهَ إٍلّا اللّه
وَ اللّهُ أَكْبَر اللّهُ أَكْبَر
وَ لِلّهِ الحَمْد
And some of them say, some of the scholars say that the takbeer should be done in threes, so you utter:
اللّهُ أَكْبَر اللّهُ أَكْبَر اللّهُ أَكْبَر
لَا إِلَهَ إٍلّا اللّه
وَ اللّهُ أَكْبَر اللّهُ أَكْبَر اللّهُ أَكْبَر
وَ لِلّهِ الحَمْد
The issue regarding this is broad, meaning whether you say it twice or three times, it is all good.
However, the scholars رحمهم الله mentioned that the absolute takbeer, meaning that which is uttered at all hours of the night and the day, starting from the beginning of the month of Dhul-Hijjah until the last day of the days of tashreeq, meaning until the sun sets on the night of the 13th [day of Dhul-Hijjah].
So the days of tashreeq are days of absolute remembrance, and likewise the ten days before the day of ‘Eed, as well as the day of ’Eed [itself].
As for the restricted takbeer, it is from the [time of the] Fajr prayer on the Day of ‘Arafah until the [time of the] ’Asr prayer on the last day of the days of tashreeq.
The restricted takbeer is [to be uttered] after the five [daily] prayers on the day of ‘Arafah, and [likewise] after the five [daily] prayers on the day of ’Eed, and [likewise] after the five [daily] prayers on the 11th [day of Dhul-Hijjah], and [likewise] after the five [daily] prayers on the 12th, and [likewise] after the five [daily] prayers on the 13th.
Collectively [amounting to] 25 prayers.
It is recommended to utter the takbeer after that, meaning after uttering:
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّه
– 3 times, [and then uttering]:
اللّهُمّ أَنْتَ السّلَام وَ مِنْكَ السّلَام
تَبَارَكْتَ يَا ذَا الجَلَالِ وَ الإِكْرَام
– [then] utter the takbeer.
And the uttering of this takbeer اللّهُ أَكْبَر becomes like the tasbeeh سُبْحَانَ اللّه and the tahmeed الحَمْدُ لِلّه that is recommended [to be uttered] after every prayer.
[So] these are the times of the absolute and the restricted takbeer.
Then we mentioned in the lecture that one should take advantage of the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah with righteous deeds, from remembrance, [reading] the Qur.aan, supplication, charity, prayer and other than that – based on the saying of the Prophet ﷺ:
«There are no days during which righteous deeds are better and more beloved to Allaah than these ten days» [i.e. the first ten days of Dhul- Hijjah.]
They said: “O Messenger of Allaah! Not even jihaad for the sake of Allaah?” He said:
«Not even Jihad for the sake of Allaah, unless a man goes out himself with his wealth, and does not return with anything.» [i.e. he expends all his wealth and is martyred.] – transmitted by al-Bukhaaree, Abu Daawood and Ibn Maajah.
We ask Allaah سبحانه و تعالى to make these ten days – and what comes after them – days of goodness and blessing for us and for all of the Muslims collectively, and we ask Allaah سبحانه و تعالى – in our position here – to grant victory to our Muslim brothers in Bosnia and Herzegovina and to hasten for them the glorious victory and the clear conquest for indeed, He is over all things capable.
