The best of actions [are those that] oppose personal desire.
How are you this morning?
al-Marwathee said, I said to Ahmad ibn Hanbal رحمه الله:
'How are you this morning?' He [Ahmad ibn Hanbal رحمه الله] replied
The mere sight of him would evoke others to remember Allaah
Other than al-Qa'nabee رحمه الله, I have not seen anyone who by the mere sight of them they would evoke others to remember Allaah تعالى. If he were to pass by a gathering [of people] they would say
The love of this world
There is none who loves [the pursuit of] this world, except that he has not loved death; [yet] whoever exerts himself [in righteousness] towards it (death), [will find that he] loves to meet his Lord.
The importance of Kitaab at-Tawheed
It is not sufficient to read 'Kitaab at-Tawheed' [just] once, rather it is befitting that you always read it; [so] every time you finish it, start [reading] it again, just as I do so myself.
Have you seen a jurist with your own eyes?
I asked al-Hasan al-Basree about something, and said [to him]: The jurists are saying such-and-such.
Be careful from whom you take your religion
Indeed, this knowledge is the religion, so look (be careful) from whom you take your religion.
You shall die tomorrow
If it was said to Hammaad ibn Salamah 'Indeed, you shall die tomorrow', he would not be able to do any more [righteous] deeds [than he already fills each day with].
Disciplined and consistent
Abu Bakr al-Khateeb رحمه الله said [about Ibn al-Baaqillaanee رحمه الله]
