Being patient during hardship
This is how the believers must be at all times; patient during hardship, and upholding the truth until there comes to them relief (ease) from Allaah سبحانه و تعالى.
A reminder for the believer
During hardship, the believer is commanded with patience and acceptance, and when [having committed] sins, to seek forgiveness and repentance. Allaah تعالى says: So be patient, [O Muhammad].
The importance of exercising patience
Exercising patience whilst waiting for relief [from the trial] is an act of worship, for indeed, Allaah is most generous in giving.
Be patient
Man has not been blessed with anything better than patience. [So] be patient. Control yourself. Discipline your tongue.
The days are of two types
The days are [of] two [types]: A 'good' day, so be thankful [to Allaah for it]; and a 'bad' day, so be patient [until Allaah eases your hardship and relieves you of your burden].
Patience whilst upon obedience to Allaah
Patience whilst upon obedience [to Allaah] is [the attainment of] a higher rank than patience whilst enduring trials and tribulations!
My father, as I knew him
Before [the advent of] electricity, he would go out every moonlit night to read. And in winter, he would go out and sit between two steel barrels for protection against the cold!
He would read 800 pages a day
He (Shibbeer 'Ataa رحمه الله) was extremely fond of knowledge, and would read extensively, such that when he was in his youth, he would read 800 pages a day, and read 2,000 volumes in the moonlight.'
Because oil was scarce at the time
Most of what Shaykh Ja'far al-'Atamee رحمه الله read [in the seeking] of knowledge was by way of the moonlight, because oil was scarce at the time.
