Giving with one’s own hands
I saw ‘Alee ibn al-Hussayn give [charity] to the poor and needy with his own hands.
Even if it were once during his lifetime
It is befitting for the person to act upon this aayah, even if it were once [during his lifetime]; [so] if something from his wealth pleases him and causes him to delight, then let him give it in charity, and maybe he will attain this Birr.
A secretive man
And I never saw him openly glorifying Allaah, nor [openly doing] any acts of charity.
Never had to pay zakaah on his wealth-2
It was reported about al-Husayn ibn Hafs that his yearly income was 100,000 [deenaars], and [despite such a huge income] he was never obligated to extract the zakaah[1] [from his wealth]
A seed grain’s worth in charity
I do not know of a seed grain comparing in weight to the mountains of this world, except a seed grain[s] worth [given] in charity.
Go and ask them what they want
If they wanted to seek a legal ruling, he would answer their questions, and if they sought charity, then the Shaykh would give me some money to pass on to them.
Paying the Zakaah before its appointed time
Is it permissible to extract the zakaah before its [appointed] time; Such as two or three months [before]?
Being charitable to relatives
Never has a relative of mine who had an outstanding loan died, except that I paid it off for him.
Never had to pay zakaah on his wealth-1
The yearly income of al-Layth ibn Sa’d was 80,000 deenaars, [and despite this immense wealth] never did Allaah obligate upon him to extract even one dirham in zakaah.
