Whenever I looked at al-Fudhayl [ibn ’Iyaadh], [the mere sight of him] would awaken sadness [in my heart], [causing me to] despise myself, and then weep.

Attaining the love of Allaah
Indeed the heart which loves Allaah ﷻ loves to become tired and exhausted for [the Sake of] Allaah; one will certainly never attain the love of Allaah whilst at rest and ease.

Never have those who enjoy, enjoyed; And never have their hearts sought to fly with anything like the beautiful recitation of the Qur.aan.
