Eating your fill weakens your ability to worship

Reference: Siyar A’laam an-Nubalaa v10 p5

ar-Rabee’ said he heard ash-Shaafi’ee رحمه الله saying:

I have not eaten my fill for 16 years, except on one occasion; and [on that occasion] I placed my hand in my mouth and induced myself to vomit.

That is because eating one’s fill causes the body to become heavy, and hardens the heart; [it also] diminishes one’s intellect, and induces sleep, and weakens one’s ability to worship.
