The true essence of khashyah

Qur.aan, Sincerity, Sins, Supplication, Words of Wisdom 23 November 201731 May 2026 Abu 'Abdullaah

Indeed, khashyah is to have fear and apprehension of Allaah, such that your fear and apprehension of Him is a cause of preventing you from sin; that there is [the true essence of] khashyah.

Protecting his photographic memory

Qur.aan, Knowledge, Manners, Shaykh 'Aasim al-Qaryooti, Sincerity, Sins, Words of Wisdom 26 October 201731 May 2026 Abu 'Abdullaah

Shaykh Ihsaan Ilaahee Zaheer informed me about our Shaykh, Muhammad al-Gondalwi that he would not read the newspapers or magazines – so as not to [inadvertantly] memorise them! That is because if he were to read anything, he was [instantly] able to memorise it.

Reading the Qur.aan with understanding

Jewels of Guidance, Qur.aan, Knowledge, Sins, Words of Wisdom 17 August 20171 June 2026 Abu 'Abdullaah

O son of Aadam, by Allaah, if you were to read the Qur.aan [with understanding] and then believed in [what] it [contains], your sadness [at what comes to pass] in this world will be lengthened, and your fear [of Allaah] in this world will intensify, and your weeping in this world will increase.

Then he is not one who remembers Allaah

Sincerity, Sins, Words of Wisdom 1 August 20171 June 2026 Abu 'Abdullaah

Indeed [true] fear is to fear Allaah until your fear [of Him] lies between you and your sins; that [there] is what fear is.
