‘Abdullaah ibn Wahb al-Hammaam entered, and heard a reciter [of the Qur.aan] read:
And [mention] when they will argue within the Fire Ghaafir 40:47 …and was overcome, and [then] fell unconscious.

Overcome and fell unconscious
We were with Yahyaa ibn Sa’eed [al-Qattaan], and a man read soorah ad-Dukhaan; Yahya was [as if] thunderstruck and was overcome, and [then] fell unconscious.
Read the Qur.aan to me
The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said to me:
Read the Qur.aan to me. I said: O Messenger of Allaah, you want me to read [the Qur.aan] to you, when it was revealed to you? He ﷺ said
I do not know
Suhnoon رحمه الله was asked whether it is possible for a scholar to say ‘I do not know’ in response to a matter he knows about? He replied
The most knowledgeable of them
The most knowledgeable of them [with regard to matters] about the Qur.aan was Mujaahid. And the most knowledgeable of them [with regard to matters] about hajj was ‘Ataa.
Be careful from whom you take your religion
Indeed, this knowledge is the religion, so look (be careful) from whom you take your religion.
You shall die tomorrow
If it was said to Hammaad ibn Salamah ‘Indeed, you shall die tomorrow’, he would not be able to do any more [righteous] deeds [than he already fills each day with].
Memorising when young
I heard (sought knowledge) from Qataadah when I was 14 years old, and there is nothing which I heard during those years except that it [remains with me] as if written in my heart.
Know that he is misguided
If you spoke to a man about the Sunnah, and he said [to you] ‘Spare us from this [speech], and [just] tell us about the Book of Allaah’, then know that he is misguided.
And Allaah will be sufficient for you against them
They struck him (‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan) and [his] blood spilt onto the mus.haf, [specifically] on the aayah:
And Allaah will be sufficient for you against them.
