Medicine for the heart and mind
Recitation of the Qur.aan works on the diseases of the heart and mind [like] how honey works on the deficiencies of the body.
Therein is sufficiency
If a person were to [carefully] ponder over the Qur.aan, then therein is [sufficiency in] what will refute every innovator’s innovation.
A beautiful voice for reciting the Qur.aan
It is befitting for the one whom Allaah has blessed with a beautiful voice for [reciting] the Qur.aan, that he know Allaah has blessed him with immense good.

Protecting his photographic memory
Shaykh Ihsaan Ilaahee Zaheer informed me about our Shaykh, Muhammad al-Gondalwi that he would not read the newspapers or magazines – so as not to [inadvertantly] memorise them! That is because if he were to read anything, he was [instantly] able to memorise it.
In prayer and supplication until the morning
Every day, my father would read a seventh [of the Qur.aan], and he would take a very light sleep after ‘Ishaa. He would then [awake and] stand [the night] in prayer and supplicate until the morning.
