قال الحسن البصري رحمه الله عن حديث الثلاثة الذين خُلفوا:
"يا سبحان الله، ما أكل هؤلاء الثلاثة مالاً حراماً، ولا سفكوا دماً حراماً، ولا أفسدوا في الأرض، أصابهم ما سمعتم وضاقت عليهم الأرض بما رحبت، فيكف بمن يواقع الفواحش والكبائر ؟!".

Regarding the three who opposed [the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ], al-Hasan al-Basree said:
O Glorified be Allaah!
These three did not consume prohibited wealth, and nor did they prohibitively kill anyone, and nor did they spread evil upon the earth; rather, they were afflicted with what you have heard [of their story], and the world [around them] tightened in spite of its vastness. So what [can be said] of those who fall into obscene acts and major sins?!
