Dressing modestly

Question: Many women wear skirts and blouses, which tend to be a little tight-fitting, but not see through, and nor short. So what is the ruling regarding this [type of] clothing, and what do you advise these women regarding such clothing?

Response: It is befitting for the Muslim woman to fear Allaah with respect to her clothing, and that her clothing suitably covers her, and that her clothing is not see-through nor outlandish. Whether she goes out in public – or even in gatherings of women, she could be afflicted with [evil] eye – and not that of those who are jealous or spiteful, rather those who have filthy intentions towards her. So her [suitably] covering herself and being modest is from that which is a source of dignity, and protection for her.
